2. Secrets to Health & Longevity: A Workshop on Traditional Chinese Medicine and Internal Energy Exercise (Qigong)
On June 7, 2014, Peace Blossoms Internal Arts Society organized SECRETS TO HEALTH & LONGEVITY: A Workshop on Traditional Chinese Medicine and Internal Exercise Energy (Qigong). Twenty-four people attended the workshop.
The first part of the workshop was about Internal Energy Exercise or Qigong with Master Zhou Baofa as the resource person. Master Zhou is currently an instructor of Qigong, Tai Chi, and Calligraphy at the Confucius Institute (Philippines). Master Zhou has extensive experience teaching the Chinese Internal Energy Exercises from around Shanghai, China. He
specializes in teaching Health and Wellness seminars based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine’s perspective.
In his session, Master Zhou talked about Qigong and its health benefits and taught and demonstrated the basic qigong postures and the Eight-Section Brocade Qigong. See the article on Annex 4 for the write-up of Ime Morales of GMA News Network on Master Baofa's session on Qigong.
The second part of the workshop was a lecture on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with Mr. Robert Ma Yee as the speaker. Mr. Yee was trained by a certified Chinese Medicine Physician in the Philippines. He is a practicing Acupuncturist and his clinic is at Networld Hotel, SM Kenko Spa & Wellness Center.
Developed in China thousands of years ago, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) or Chinese medicine consists of a diverse range of medicine practices that share common theoretical concepts. TCM uses a combination of modalities such as qigong, acupuncture, herbal medicine, meditation, cupping, guasha, and tuina massage.
In Mr. Yee’s lecture on TCM, he discussed the basic components of TCM--definition of Qi, functions and types of Qi, Yin Yang theory, and Five Elements theory. He also shared his knowledge on how to use Qi for health and longevity, and how to use Chinese Medicine Home Remedies for common ailments.
Mr. Yee also explained how negative emotions affect one’s health and cause illnesses or diseases. For example, excessive anger and frustration can cause imbalance in Liver/Gallbladder organs/meridians and disrupt their function. TCM helps the body regain its natural balance by correcting the flow of Qi and by supporting organs.
In closing, Mr. Yee stressed the following points to the participants:
1. Preserve and protect your Qi.
2. Balance your diet, emotions, and exposure to the external environment.
3. Treat your food as medicine.
